Brief history of Lions Club - Force Behind
Lions Club International is the world’s largest and the most reputed social service organization spread over 200 countries across the globe, consisting of 45000 clubs with combined membership strength of 1.3 million. In the nine decades of its existence, Lions have selflessly served humanity. Lions Club of Calcutta Greater, most prestigious associate of Lions Club in Calcutta, was chartered in 1971 . The ‘Greater’ lions adopted the village of Chowhati in 1974 and since then have been instrumental in transforming a sleepy nondescript village into a fast developing Mofussil town. The ‘multipurpose centre’ being run by Lions Club provides medical facilities and imparts cultural and vocational training to the inhabitants of the area.
Due to paucity of educational facilities in the area, members conceived this school and they desired to build it as an exemplary centre of education. The most cherished dream of Lions Calcutta(Greater) took shape on 17th March, 2002 with the blessings of Swami Ashaktanandaji, Secretary Ramkrishna Mission Ashram, Narendrapur.
The school has seen the light of the day and is growing from strength to strength with the dedicated support and contributions from Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) as well as members, well wishers and corporate houses.
Advisory board of the school has distinguished persons of ability, integrity and standing, who have shown the capacity to support the vision. The school is being greatly benefited from their vast experience, abundant wisdom and spirit of service.
